  • This is episode 59, and our kick off to John Hughes Month!  Throughout November, we'll cover some iconic John Hughes movies, starting with this episode: Sixteen Candles!

This 1984 film was the world's introduction to Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall, as well as John and Joan Cusack!  John Hughes (may he rest in peace) definitely created some of the more iconic teenage dramas of the 1980s, so if you aren't familiar with any of the films we're covering, do yourself a favor and catch up!

Happy Halloween from all of us at the Walltower!  We covered John Carpenter's breakthrough horror film Halloween last year and thought we would be remiss if we didn't take a fair look at Rob Zombie's 2007 remake.

The biggest difference is, of course, the humanization of Michael Myers.  Sound off on Twitter or Facebook and let us know what you think!

I almost don't even want to write a description for this episode.  In fact, I'd rather talk about something else.  Did you know that Vin Diesel's movie The Last Witch Hunter (15%, rated just behind The Pacifier) isn't actually his worst reviewed flop?

According to RottenTomatoes, Babylon A.D. takes the cake at 6%.  See Vin?  It's all uphill from there!  What a neat fact.

HAPPY BACK TO THE FUTURE DAY!

In this special episode, we're interrupting our Horror Movie Month to discuss one of the best sequels ever released, and one that predicted a number of important technological achievements (which came true!).

Anyways, enough of this, you know what it is, get to listening!

Guys, let's be up front about one thing: John Carpenter knows how to scare the pants off of you.  He knows just how creepy something can be on screen, and with today's movie, he shows you that he knows just how shocking things can be on screen!

Kurt Russell is pretty much the ONLY star in this 1982 movie about a THING from ANOTHER WORLD!  That's right, it's John Carpenter's The Thing!

Today is a special day.  We let Clay pick a movie, and instantly regretted our decision.  Today, dear listeners, you get to say "I told you so"

Return of the Living Dead was written AND directed by Dan O'Bannon (yes, the Dan O'Bannon that wrote Alien) and unfortunately for him, this movie didn't retain the same kind of cult that Alien did.  Probably because Dan O'Bannon ain't no Ridley Scott

In any case, we hope you enjoy this week's episode.  We'll be over here, finishing our ribs.  Oh, and SEND MORE PARAMEDICS!

Welcome to our second annual Horror Movie Month!  First up on Ye Olde Chopping Blocke: SCREAM!

Wes Craven is the only logical jumping-off point here, considering his 1996 hit horror movie single-handedly revived the horror genre for the new millennium!  Who can forget the opening scene with Drew Barrymore, or the unforgettable twist at the end?  Simultaneously jump-starting the careers of Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, Scream is one of the finest achievements of Wes Craven's career.  We will miss him dearly...

There was a lot of doubt when the announcement came out about a reboot to the Batman franchise.  It only takes the first viewing to know: Christopher Nolan is the fucking man!

Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, and Michael Caine star in this spectacular treatment of the World's Greatest Detective's origin story!

    Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe.

    Kevin Spacey and Kim Basinger.

In this film noir, set in 1953, American audiences are introduced to two amazing Australian actors for the first time.  Kim Basinger wins an Academy Award, and Kevin Spacey goes on to bigger and better things (doesn't he always?).  LA Confidential is one of the finer movies in 1996 and we dissect it from top to bottom!

Evolution is one of those mis-understood movies, released in a competitive year and mis-handled in their promotions.  It is one of the funnier movies David Duchovny has starred in, and the performances by Ted Levine (Mr. Skin Bag himself), Julianne Moore (hey, another Hannibal Lecter connection!), and Orlando Jones seem to elevate this forgotten gem from the turn of the century.

Oh, and Seann William Scott is in it, too.  Tookie tookie!
